Key Coursework

INR2001- Intro to International Relations

This class is what got me first interested in international relations. Prior to taking this class I was ignorant of the many complexities of the field. This class helped me get a basic footing in the field and opened my eyes to studying this in the future.

CHT3500- Chinese Culture

This class got me introduced to many of the themes and core concepts I would learn more about in the future, in both my religion and culture classes. This was also my first in-depth introduction to Mencius, I really enjoyed reading the text on him and his take on Confucius.

REL2315- Religion in Asia

It was this class that made me decide to pursue a minor in Religion. The teacher was so energetic and excited about the topic that it made me excited to come in everyday. I enjoyed learning the rich histories of so many of the religions in the region.

INS3004- International Studies Perspectives

I learned a lot about development and the nuance of the problems facing the world today. I enjoyed reading The Bottom Billion in this class and it helped me understand the issues facing those that live in extreme poverty around the world.

JPT4956- Contemporary Japanese Politics

This is one of the electives I took while studying abroad and I proved to be my favorite course while I was in Japan. The style and norms of Japanese Politics were so different from American Politics and were largely unknown to me at the time. The whole class was a good time and I would usually talk with the teacher for at least an hour after each class about either some topic from the class or something in the news.

INR3102- U.S. and World Affairs

This was one of my favorite class on International Relations that I took at UF. I  got an deep understanding of America's foreign policy over time and got to take part in a crisis simulation centering on the escalation of force in the Vietnam War. In the simulation exercise I got to play the part of Secretary of State Dean Rusk, which was a great experience, since we got to see how given the information and thought process at the time how the escalation of the war made sense to the people in charge at the time.

PUR4932- International Humanitarian Communications

I feel that I can really make a difference, is what I thought when I entered this class. The teacher helped guide me from someone when had the knowledge of the topic to someone who knew how to express and delivery this knowledge for the greater good of others. This class had a profound effect on me, making me want to help those in need in the future.

JPT4502- Japanese Folklore

I found this class interesting on a personal level. For a while since I have returned from studying abroad in Japan I have been fascinated with yokai, creatures of Japanese folklore. This class stimulated me interest fully getting to do in-depth research on the topic and learn of their origins and how they became a part of the culture of Japan even in the modern day.
